Abstract

149,210. Huth Ges., Dr. E. F., (Assignees of Loewe, S.). March 8, 1917, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Thermionic relays.-Two or more sets of electrodes for use as amplifiers, detectors or oscillating-generators, are mounted in a single tube. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, three sets of electrodes, each comprising an incandescent cathode 1, a grid 2, and an anode 3 are mounted in a tube by means of connexions sealed into the glass, and springs 6 for maintaining the electrodes stretched. The sets may be mounted in separate compartments formed by thin glass diaphragms, the compartments containing different gases or the same gas at different pressures. One set may be used as an oscillation-generator and the others as amplifiers. In an arrangement shown in Fig. 2. for amplifying, two grids 2, 14 and two anodes 3, 16 are mounted on either side of a central incandescent cathode 1, the grids being connected together through a winding 27 carrying the current to be amplified. A variable connexion 12 is made between the cathode and the middle of the winding 27. Telephone receivers 30, 11 or the windings of a polarized relay are connected with a battery 29 in the anode-cathode circuits. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, three sets of electrodes are mounted around a common incandescent cathode 1, to form an oscillation-generator a. an amplifier b, and a detector c. In another arrangement a fine mesh grid and an anode are mounted on one side of and close to a cathode to act as a receiver, and a wide mesh grid and large anode are mounted on the other side of, and farther from the cathode, to act as an oscillating generator.
