Abstract

1491774 Pipe coupling MONTPELIER FOUNDRY Pty Ltd 4 Sept 1975 36493/75 Heading F2G A pipe coupling member in which two sealing members each comprising a pair of circumferentially extending arch portions 4 joined by a pair of axially extending bridge portions 7 are clamped about co-axially confronting pipe ends by two coupling halves (not shown) is characterized in that each of the said sealing member portions includes a knife-edged pipe contacting lip 6, 9 of wedge-shaped section; said lips being adapted to contact the outer surfaces of the pipe ends and being sealingly retained thereon under the action of fluid pressure prevailing in the pipe. Preferably the sealing members are formed of natural or synthetic rubber or PVC and the bridge portions are formed with grooves 15 which receive corresponding axial ribs formed on confronting faces of the coupling halves to anchor the members in position.
