Abstract

1491620 Isocyanurate foams BASF WYANDOTTE CORP 10 Sept 1975 [23 Dec 1974] 37266/75 Heading C3R Isocyanurate foams are prepared by reacting (a) a polyarylpolyalkylene polyisocyanate having a functionality of from 2À2 to 3À5, (b) from 5 to 40 parts by weight of a polyoxyethylene polyol having a hydroxyl number of from 100 to 900 and containing units derived from ethylene oxide to an extent of from 50 to 95% by weight, (c) from 10 to 40 parts by weight of a fluorocarbon blowing agent, and (d) from 1 to 6 parts of a 1,3,5-tris(N,N-dialkylaminoalkyl)-5-hexahydrotriazine trimerization catalyst or the alkylene oxide and water adducts thereof, the parts being based on 100 parts by weight of polyisocyanate. Carbodiimide and urethaneforming catalysts may also be incorporated in the reaction mixture. Preferred components are (a) a polyphenylpolymethylene polyisocyanate of functionality 2-7, (b) ethylene oxidetrimethylolpropane addition products, (c) trichlorofluoromethane and (d) 1,3,5-tris-(N,N- dimethyl - 3 - aminopropyl) - 5 - hexahydrotriazine. The foams are resistant to high temperatures.
