Abstract
1491440 Wound enclosures NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 13 Nov 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 39001/73 Addition to 1436104 Heading A5R An enclosure member for providing an environment isolated from the ambient environment comprises a base portion for attachment to a patient around a wound 13, Figure 1, and an envelope portion for enclosing a space above a wound on a patient, the base portion defining an opening in the enclosure member. The enclosure member is formed of flexible synthetic plastics material and includes a flexible sleeve 27, closed at one end, attached to the envelope portion around a port in the envelope portion, the sleeve having a tapering portion in which the circumference of the sleeve diminishes towards the closed end of the sleeve. The base portion includes at least part of a lower sheet 18, Figure 2, of flexible plastics material, the sleeve 27, possibly additional sleeves 26, 25, being attached to an upper sheet 14 of flexible plastics material. The lower sheet 18 has a layer of adhesive 20 and a backing sheet 21 and may be provided with loops 24 of flexible material for tying the enclosure member to the patient. The sleeves may be conical or frusto conical and conduits may be inserted through them without exposing the interior of the enclosure member to a non-sterileatmosphere by pressing e.g. a drainage tube, from inside the enclosure member into the sleeve until the material of the sleeve is stretched, then cutting the closed end of the sleeve to allow the tube to pass through.
