Abstract

1491345 Levels TOWMOTOR CORP 14 Feb 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 6406/75 Heading G1F A level comprises a first body 32, a cylindrical body 62 having a centre of gravity spaced from its longitudinal axis 66 and mounted on the body 32 so as to pivot relative thereto about its axis 66, first indicia means 80, 82 fixed relative to body 32 and second indicia means 76 fixed relative to the cylindrical body 62. The level is fixed on a pivotal mast 18 of a vehicle, for example a fork lift truck, having load carrying means, e.g. a platform 24, movable upwardly and downwardly of the mast 18. The cylindrical body has its longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the pivot axis of the mast so that variations of the position of the mast and load carrying means due to pivoting of the mast is indicated by the relative positions of the first and second indicia means. As described, the body 62 may be of plastics having a bore 72 containing a cylinder of lead. The first body 32 defines a chamber in which is disposed the cylindrical body, the remaining space being substantially filled with viscous liquid e.g. glycerine. The level may be calibrated in position on the vehicle mast for an empty and a full load carrying member mounted on the mast. A red portion of the indicia means may be provided which serves to warn of tilting of the load carrying member in a direction that might cause vehicle tilting.
