Abstract
1491241 Profile monitoring of timber PLESSEY CO Ltd 15 Jan 1975 [18 Jan 1974] 02474/74 Heading G1A In an apparatus for inspecting moving lengths of timber 12 for "profile" or "cross-section" irregularities, the timber is illuminated by collimated light from a light source behind a slit. The image of the slit formed across the timber 12 will be distorted by any irregularities. The image is scanned across an array or a line of photo diodes 15 by means of a rotating multiface mirror 13 and a lens 15. Different faults will distort the slit image in different ways, and the photo diodes outputs are processed by a computer circuit 18 including threshold devices which may supply a display 19. Both sides of the timber may be investigated by employing two of the above apparatuses.
