Abstract

1491142 Matrix displays CARL-ZEISSSTIFTUNG [TRADING AS JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN] 15 Jan 1975 [1 March 1974] 1661/75 Heading G5C A conical light guide 1 is incorporated in a fibre optic display device to produce a more directional light output. Light guides 8, 8<SP>1</SP> extend from sources 14, 14<SP>1</SP> to screen 11 where they are arranged in display patterns. A conical guide is mounted at the display end of each guide 8 or at the bunched end of each group. The conical guides may be non-circular and the cone angle may vary. A flat or convex cover 12 protects the screen 11; it may act as a diffusing lens and include an anti-reflection layer. Fibres from different bunches may be connected to the same conical guide at the screen. Sources 14 may comprise a plurality of incandescent lamps for safety and to allow the intensity to be varied. Coloured displays are produced with filters 15.
