Abstract
1490924 Laminates COMPAGNIE DES ETABS DE LA RISLE-PAPETERIES DE PONT-AUDEMER 26 June 1975 [27 June 1974 3 June 1975] 27113/75 Heading B5N A wiping article of improved suppleness and absorption is produced by forming a composite web 6 comprising at least one flexible grid 7, which is a net or network of threads or fibres, e.g. of nylon, glass or polyester fibres, covered on each face with a layer of paper 10, 11, the layers being bonded together solely along the threads or fibres which constitute the grid, forming on at least portions of the width of the composite web a plurality of transverse pleats by dry creping and then embossing the creped composite web. Adhesive may be applied to grid 7 at station 9 and layers 7, 10 and 11 bonded together by passage through heated cylinders 14, 15, the composite web 6 so produced being creped in device 2, drawn to reduce the residual elongation in press 3, embossed in press 4 comprising a cylinder covered with fine-mesh metallic grid and a cylinder covered with rubber, and collected on reel 5. Creping device 2 may comprise cylinder 19 coated with silicon carbide, steel blade 20 having an extension in the form of a second blade which forms an adjustable gap with backing blade 22 within which the composite web collects to form a plurality of transverse pleats. Creped zones arranged alternately with non-creped zones across the width of the composite web may be produced by providing the second blade in the creping device with castellated recesses of trapezoidal or semicircular shape of width corresponding to the width of the non-creped zones. Drawing press 3 may draw the composite web at a speed lower than that of cylinder 19 so that the composite web is provided with a residual elongation of at least 20%, and the elongation may then be reduced to between 0 and 10% by means of drawing and embossing press 4.
