1490919 Penicillin and cephalosporin derivatives POLITECHNIKA GDANSKA 17 March 1975 [30 March 1974] 10982/75 Heading C2C Novel pharmaceutically-acceptable penicillin and cephalosporin derivatives of the general formula or a sulphoxide thereof, in which Z is a radical of one of the following formulµ where X is optionally substituted methyl and R-CO is an acyl radical having a carbocyclic group or a heterocyclic group containing a N or O atom, provided that when Z is a penicillin radical, R-CO is not phenyl-acetyl, are prepared (a) by reacting R-CO-NH-Z-COOH or a sulphoxide thereof with in which Y is a halogen atom or hydroxy group, and (b) by reacting with R-CO-OH. A resulting penicillin may be oxidized to the corresponding sulphoxide and then pyrolized catalytically to give a cephalosporin derivative of the Formula (I) wherein X is methyl.
