Abstract

1490820 Phthalocyanine dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 July 1976 [7 Oct 1975] 41054/75 Heading C4P The invention comprises dyestuffs which in the free acid form have the general formula wherein Pc is a metallized, e.g. Cu, Co or Ni, or unmetallized phthalocyanine radical, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are H or optionally substituted hydrocarbon radical free of PO 2 H 2 groups, R<SP>3</SP> is H or optionally substituted alkyl, Y is an optionally substituted hydrocarbylene radical, a is 0, 1 or 2, b is 1, 2 or 3, c is 1 or 2 and a+b+c does not exceed 4, each of the sulphonic acid and optionally substituted sulpho-amide groups being in the 3<SP>1</SP> or 4<SP>1</SP> positions in the Pc nucleus and mixtures thereof wherein a is 0-2, b is 1-2 and c is 1-2. R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are preferably H and Y is preferably m-phenylene. The dyes may be in the form of ammonium, alkali metal, or alkanolamine salts. They are prepared by reacting an aqueous suspension of a phthalocyanine sulphochloride of the general formula (HO 3 S) m -Pc-(SO 2 Cl) n where m is 0 or 1 and n is 2, 3 or 4 provided that m + n does not exceed simultaneously or in either order with a compound HN(R<SP>1</SP>)R<SP>2</SP> and with a compound HN(R<SP>3</SP>)-Y-PO 3 H 2 wherein Pc, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and Y are as above, any residual sulphochloride groups being hydrolysed to sulphonic acid groups. An excess of the amine HN(R<SP>1</SP>)R<SP>2</SP> may be used as acid-binding agent instead of sodium bicarbonate, carbonate or hydroxide. The dyes dye wool, silk, cotton, linen, viscose rayon, polyestermethylene adipamide and polycaproimide in turquoise shades.
