Abstract
1490712 Phosphoric acid; fertilizers VEBACHEMIE AG 10 Oct 1974 [11 Oct 1973 15 March 1974] 43958/74 Heading ClA Phosphoric acid suitable for the preparation of high grade fertilizers is prepared by (1) decomposing rock phosphate with HNU 3 , and optionally H 2 SO 4 , wherein the mole ratios H<SP>+</SP> : P 2 O 5 =7 to 17 : 1 and H 2 SO 4 : HNO 3 = 8 to 0 : 1; if H 2 SO 4 is present the reaction temperature is 60-110‹ C., while if H 2 SO 4 is absent, the reaction temperature is 60-100‹ C. and the concentration of HNO 3 is 35-60% by weight, (2) if necessary, introducing sufficient additional SO 4 <SP>-</SP> ions so that, after precipitation of all the Ca<SP>++</SP> ions in the reaction mixture as CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O, the reaction mixture contains 10-150 g. SO 4 - ions in solution, (3) adjusting the water content of the reaction mixture so that the waste content of the resultant nitrogenous phosphonic acid product is 20-55% by weight, optionally by recycling water from step (5), (4) separating the CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O from the liquid phase, (5) washing the CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O with water, the washings optionally being recycled to step (3), and (6) recovering the liquid phase from step (4).
