Abstract

1490589 Preparation of methyl-(2-qusnoxalinyl - methylene) - carbazate - N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>4</SP> - dioxide EGYT GYOGYSZERVEGYESZETI GYAR 23 May 1975 [18 June 1974] 22543/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises a novel process for preparing methyl - (2 - quinoxalinyl - methylene) - carbazate - N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>4</SP> - dioxide in which benzofuroxan is reacted with methyl glyoxal dimethylacetal in the presence of at least 0À5 moles of ammonium hydroxide (based on the benzo furoxan) and a 1 : 0À4 to 1 : 4 mixture by volume of water and a dimethyl sulphoxide and/or dimethyl formamide solvent system at 10‹ to 30‹ C. and reacting the thus formed 2- formyl - quinoxaline - 1,4 - dioxide dimethylacetal with methyl carbazate in an aqueous medium. The reaction medium after the first step can be reused for preparing further quantities of the intermediate by adding calculated amounts of the starting materials. Alternatively methyl carbazate can be added to the medium wherein the intermediate is formed. The final product has bactericidal and weight increasing pharmaceutical properties.
