Abstract
1490213 Metal vapour lamps GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 19 May 1975 [4 June 1974] 24672/74 Heading H1D In a high pressure Hg discharge lamp with refractory light transmitting discharge envelope, e.g. SiO 2 or Al 2 O 3 , the wall-stabilized arc running in Hg vapour plus a small quantity of rare gas, together with Na halide and T1 halides emitting in the blue-green, can be made to emit light nearer to black body radiation by increasing the Hg vapour pressure to 6-20 atmospheres at operating temperature. The fill may include 20 torr of Ar at ambient temperature plus Na and T1 iodides and Hg. The limits for Hg pressure lamp power and length depend on the material properties of the discharge envelope and the supply voltage. The use of the halides of Na and Tl also improves the luminous efficiency at the high Hg pressure.
