Abstract

1490184 Panel joints BRUNSWICK CORP 23 Oct 1974 [30 Oct 1973] 45799/74 Heading F2M [Also in Division E1] A sandwich panel having face sheets 22, 24 separated by an insulating core 25, preferably a resin-impregnated paper-base honeycomb, and extending beyond the core at the ends of the panel, is provided within the space so formed with a connecting member 28 in the form of a metal bar of pentagonal cross-section secured to the first sheet 22 and abutting the core 25, and a thermally and electrically insulating layer 30 which abuts the second sheet 24. The member 28 is also provided with an outwardly or laterally projecting arm 39 so that two such panels may be secured together at right angles in abutting relationship, as by means of a nut or bolt or by securing the arms to the leaves of a hinge, the arms being provided with gaskets 41 of resilient material to prevent entry of moisture between the panel face sheets. The gaskets may be conductive and the sheets 24 may be connected by an RF shielding tape 56. In a modification only one panel has a projecting arm and this extends laterally to abut in face contact with a surface of the member 28 on a panel at right angles to the first panel.
