Abstract

1490056 Desulphurizing process ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH EICH DUDELANGE SA 15 April 1976 [18 April 1975] 15703/76 Heading C7D A process for desulphurizing iron and/or steel or ferro alloys wherein a desulphurizing agent comprising finely divided calcium formate is introduced beneath the melt surface. The calcium formate may be mixed with other desulphurizers or slag-consistency controlling additives and briquetted, or may be blown into the melt through a lance using a carrier gas e.g. air, nitrogen argon, a hydrocarbon, or mixtures thereof. The calcium formate may be the by-product of the synthesis of pentaerythritol.
