Abstract

1489991 Reactive azo dye cobalt complexes SANDOZ Ltd 7 Jan 1975 [9 Jan 1974] 574/75 Heading C4P Novel asymmetric 1 : 2 cobalt complex azo dyes have the formula where A<SP>1</SP> and A<SP>11</SP> independently represent the radical of a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series and the oxygen atom is ortho to the azo group; E<SP>1</SP> and E<SP>11</SP> independently represent the radical of a coupling component of the naphthalene series and the azo group and the group -NR and the azo group and the oxygen atom are attached to positions 1 and 2 or 2 and 1; R is H, C 1-4 alkyl or optionally substituted phenyl; R 2 is H or C 1-4 alkyl; Z is a fibre-reactive group bound to A<SP>1</SP>, A<SP>11</SP> or E<SP>11</SP> or to the phenyl radical of R; M 1 and M independently are cations and the compounds contain at least 2 but less than 7 SO 3 M groups. The dyes are prepared by condensing the corresponding dyes in which Z is H, with a compound of formula Z-X in which X is a substituent which may split off as an anion. They are used for colouring organic substrates particularly cellulose or polyamides.
