Abstract
1489950 Machine supports CARRIER DRYSYS Ltd 27 May 1976 [16 June 1975] 25603/75 Heading F2X In a method of supporting a load, e.g. machinery or other plant such as an air-conditioning plant on the roof of a building, the load is supported with its underside spaced from a supporting surface, a plinth is formed in situ between the supporting surface and the load by setting solid in at least one flexible plastics bag provided with venting means disposed between the supporting surface and the underside of the load a quick-setting fluid material, e.g. a cement or concrete mix or a chemical mixture capable of forming a solid-setting plastics foam, and the load is released to rest on the plinth. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, a load 1 is supported by a gantry 7 spaced from a supporting surface 2. A polythene bag having closed ends and provided with a filling aperture 4 and a venting aperture and valve 5 is located between the load 1 and the surface 2, and there is injected into the bag a chemical mixture capable of forming a polyurethane foam. The foam forms with the production of gas/vapour which inflates the bag and causes it to engage the underside of the load, and following inflation of the bag the gas/ vapour is expressed through the venting aperture and valve 5 until the foam fills the bag. Following solid setting of the foam the load is released to rest on the plinth. The polythene bag is sufficiently flexible to accommodate any irregularities on the supporting surface 2, and the foam is able to deform sufficiently to form upward protrusions 12. While it is preferred that the foam mix is injected into a single empty bag positioned between the load 1 and the supporting surface 2, in some instances it may be possible to form a plinth using a plurality of bags which after the foam mix is injected into them are immediately sealed and slipped into position between the load and the supporting surface.
