Abstract
1489929 A seeding device J I KEHOE 16 Sept 1974 [28 Sept 1973] 40289/74 Heading AID A seeding device comprises a seed delivery wheel 3 rigidly mounted on a shaft 2 and having a plurality of holes 4 around its periphery, and a seed storage and distribution device 7 having a seed storage hopper 8, a container 9 which receives the seeds, a cylindrical hub 19 mounted on the shaft 2 and provided with a plurality of a set of apertures 20, 21 which communicate with the holes 4 via pipes 22, an arc-shaped part sleeve 23 and a cylindrical end cap 24 provided with a plurality of a set of apertures 25, 26 each set for communicating with each set of the hub 19 and teeth 28 whereby as the shaft 2 rotates as a result of the rotation of a ground engaging wheel 1 the teeth 28 carry the seeds upwardly to drop them through the set of apertures 25, 26 into apertures 20, 21 at the region where the apertures are not prevented by the sleeve 23 from communicating, and the seeds drop onto the ground via pipes 22 and holes 4 upon further rotation of the wheel 3. A sleeve 31 having a gap 32 is provided so that seeds coming out of holes 4 fall onto the ground only through the gap 32. In another embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown) pipes (40) having portions bent through 360‹ are provided so that the seeds are delivered from the holes 4 upon rotation of the wheel through 360‹. Overflow ducts (41) are also provided on the pipes (40). If seeds block the apertures 20, 21, 25 and 26 they are carried by the teeth 28 to be discharged through a hole 16 and pipe 17 into an overflow tray 18. The diameter of the apertures on the end cap 24 may be increased to increase the number of seeds sown each time. Also the end cap 24 may have half the number of apertures as the hub 19 in order to halve the quantity of seeds delivered. Means may be provided to cut off delivery of seeds from one row of apertures to increase the spacing between each seed on the ground.
