Abstract

1489920 Hydrogenative extraction of coal COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 15 Oct 1975 [7 Nov 1974] 48305/74 Heading C5E Coal is hydrogenatively extracted in the absence of a catalyst and in the presence of hydrogen and a gas phase solvent under supercritical conditions at a temperature of at least 400‹ C. The process can be carried out at 400-550‹ C. by contacting the coal for 5-120 minutes. The hydrogen can be pure or can be a mixture of producer gas and water gas. The solvent, which can be used in amount of 3 to 20 parts per part by weight of coal, can be toluene, water, a phenol, pyridine or an aromatic aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon.
