Abstract

Propoxylated or butoxylated branched fatty alcohols are used as foam suppressants in padding liquors or print pastes in the space dyeing of polyamide carpet fibre yarns by the knit-deknit process. The branched fatty alcohols have from 8 to 13 carbom atoms in the fatty alkyl moiety, of which in total at least 2 are present in at least one side chain, and they have an average of from 0.6 to 1.5 propylene or butylene oxide units in the molecule. The liquors or pastes contain from 0.1 to 0.7% by weight of the fatty alcohol derivative, up to 1.5% by weight of a nonionic wetting agent and/or up to 1.5% by weight of an anionic wetting agent, the total amount of wetting agent being from 0.3 to 2.5% by weight. The prints obtained are less prone to run for the same quantity of thickener, and they show better penetration.
