Abstract
Propylene glycol esters of propionic acid are added to silage during its production. Surprisingly, the action using the neutral esters occurs more rapidly and more intensively than using acids. Not only is the undesirable formation of butyric acid prevented, but the formation of lactic acid is also promoted. The addition is suitable for all types of silage. The quality of the silage obtained is very good.
