Abstract

1489141 Lead based alloys GOULD Inc 17 March 1975 [11 Oct 1974] 10981/75 Heading C7A [Also in Division H1] In a lead-acid battery, the positive and negative electrode grids are each formed from a ternary lead base alloy, the positive electrode grids consisting of lead, 1À0 to 2À0 wt. per cent antimony and 1À2 to 2À2 wt. per cent cadmium, whilst the negative electrode grids consist of lead, 0À06 to 0À20 wt. per cent calcium and 0À10 to 0À40 wt. per cent tin. The cadmium is present in an amount at least equal to the amount of antimony. The alloy is produced by adding the alloying constituents to the molten lead and then mixing until the mass is homogeneous. The grids are then cast in moulds.
