1488927 Banking equipment DIEBOLD Inc 21 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 7273/75 Heading G4X An automatic banking unit has a housing 1 and a rotary cash drawer 6, the drawer is movable between a "home" position as shown in Fig. 2, an "open" position as shown in Fig. 13 and a "dump" position, Fig. 14 (not shown). In the "home" position the drawer can receive currency from a currency supply and delivery mechanism 7. In the "open" position the currency can be removed from the drawer by an operator and receipts or the like placed in the drawer. In the "dump" position the drawer is inverted and anything in the drawer is deposited in tray 39. The sequence of movement of the drawer is from the "home" position to an "open" position and then from the "open" position to the "dump" position after a predetermined time interval or after a signal has been produced. Finally the drawer moves from the "dump" position to the "home" position. If the count of the delivery of the currency to the drawer is incorrect an operator cancels his transaction before the drawer moves to the open position, the drawer is moved direct from the "home" to the "dump" position. The drawer consists of a rotor 23 with a cylindrical wall 24 supported in frame members 9, 10 and end frame members 11 and 12. The rotor has a slot 36 and a liner 37 extending axially thereof to form a pocket 38. Partition walls 29, 30 form cavities 31, 32 at each end of the rotor, which cavities surround stub-axles 25, 26. Positioned in the cavities are counterweights (43) (44) Fig. 5 (not shown). Drive for the rotor is by motors 92, 95 dependent on the direction of rotation of the rotor. The motors are mounted on a plate 89 which is pivotally mouned at 90 to frame member 11 and is movable by solenoid 97. A gear wheel 94 is mounted on stub-axle 25. For clockwise rotation of the rotor, as viewed in Fig. 2, gear wheel 93 is engaged with gear wheel 94. For anti-clockwise rotation friction drive wheel 96 engages the outer surface of the rotor. The friction drive is used as a safeguard against an operator getting a hand stuck in the drawer, A ratchet wheel 102 and ratchet pawl 103 are operative only during friction drive of the rotor and prevent the rotor being forcibly moved against the action of the fraction drive. A stop pin 71 engages in opening 72 when the rotor is in the home position. When the rotor is in the open position electric eye bulbs 60a, 6Àb can project a light beam to photocell sensors 63, 64 via prisms 56 and 54, as shown in Fig. 6. Before removal of currency this beam is obscured. Removal of the currency allows the light beam to pass and a signal is thus produced to signal the start of the next phase of the operation. A rib 109 in the pocket tilts paper currency off the vertical. A switch plate 75 has light sensers thereon which are interrupted by fingers 82, 84 on a disc attached to stub-axle 26. The sensers denote the different positions of the rotor. The circuitry for operation of the unit is illustrated in Fig. 17 (not shown).
