1488838 Plant extracts S.E.R.T.O.G. SOC D'ETUDES DE RECHERCHES DE TRAVAUX D'ORGANISATION ET DE GESTION 2 June 1975 [4 June 1974] 24641/74 Heading A5B In a process for the preparation of a therapeutic product extracted from plants of the genus Prunus of the Rosaceae family and in particular a plant of the genus Prunus originating from Asia, notably Prunus Wallitchi (Steud.), Prunus Javanica (Teysh. and Binn), Prunus Arborea (Bl.) Kalkm, Prunus Lusitanica L., or a plant of the genus Prunus Africana, notably Prunus Africana (Hook) F. Kalkm, or Pygeum Africanum (Hook), the plant is treated with a lipid to cause extraction of a fraction of the plant, the lipidic material thus obtained being treated with an alkali which reacts with the fatty acids present in the material, the unreacted lipidic material, which contains the therapeutic product, being thereafter subjected to solvent extraction with a hydrocarbon, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, mixtures of each of these or mixtures of both whereby the therapeutic product is obtained.
