Abstract

1488352 Concentrated alkylsulphate solutions ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 13 Jan 1975 [16 Jan 1974] 02038/74 Heading C2C Concentrated solutions of alkyl sulphates' defined as pourable fluids containing alkyl sulphates at a concentration substantially above the critical limit at which gel formation is first observed, are prepared by mixing together an acid ROSO 2 OH, where R is alkyl, and a base selected from ammonia and organic amines having up to 6 carbons in the presence of sufficient water to maintain the product in the concentrated liquid state as defined above. Concentrations of 60-90% by weight are mentioned, generally Œ5% of the value corresponding to the viscosity minimum. Neutralization is preferably effected in a neutralization loop with recycling of a proportion of the product and to a pH of 6À5 to 8À5. Examples prepare concentrated solutions of salts of monoethanolamine, ammonia, a mixture of mono- and tri-ethanolamines and ammonia, with C 12-14 mixed alkyl sulphates.
