Abstract

1488267 Manufacture of variable resistors SPECTROL ELECTRONICS CORP 26 Nov 1974 [31 May 1974] 51194/74 Heading HIS [Also in Division B3] A process for producing potentiometers by intermittently advancing a blanked-out strip 10 of conductive material through successive work stations comprises the steps of: bending portions of the strip 10 to provide guide portions 21-26, Fig. 1, which accurately position potentiometer substrate 41 when it is loaded on to the strip, bending guide portions 21, 23 and 24 into contact with the collector and resistance terminations 42 of substrate 41 and soldering them thereto, applying a housing and rotor assembly 81 parts of which are deformed to fix it to the substrate, stamping and bending portions 91, 92, 93 of strip 10 so that they form terminals, applying an epoxy compound (121, Fig. 5, not shown) to seal the housing, and removing the assembled potentiometer from the unused strip portion. Before assembly 81 is applied the substrates may be separated into groups of ten.
