Abstract

Teeth, artificial. - Porcelain tooth facings are formed with cavities at the back to accommodate pins or other projections which are cast in one piece with the metal backing-plates, bridges, crowns, or other supports. Fig. 1 shows a facing a secured by cement to a backing b cast with pins or projections d, Fig. 2. Modified forms of projection are shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In manufacture, the wax model h of the backing &c. is made with the tooth in place and core pins g having reduced, roughened or threaded ends g<1> are inserted to carry the wax. into the tooth cavities so as to obtain, an exact model thereof. The projecting ends of the pins g serve as handles for the wax models and also to form pouring- channels in the mould. Several backing plates, crowns &c. may be cast together in a block. The facings may be standardized so as to be replaceable.
