Abstract

1487967 Explosive compositions MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 4 Feb 1975 [13 Jan 1975] 1369/75 Heading ClD An explosive material, for example dynamite, contains as a tagging additive microparticles of an organic substance which does not soften below 60‹ C., the particles having a distinctive shape, for example spheroidal, and containing one or more tagging elements each in an amount of at least 0À1% of the total weight. The particles may be recovered after detonation of the explosive and analysed, for example by an electron microprobe analyser, in order to determine the nature and concentration of the tagging elements and so identify the source of the explosive. The organic substance may be polyethylene, an epoxy resin, carnauba wax, paraffin wax, polystyrene, or a polyamide or polyurethane; other suitable polymers and waxes are listed. The particles may also contain magnetitite in order to increase their specific gravity. The sensitivity of the explosive is described by the addition of the tagging particles. Specification No. 1,441,419 is referred to.
