Abstract
1487865 Stopping rotation at definite positions COMPAGNIE INDUSTRIELLE DES TELECOMMUNICATIONS CIT - ALCATEL 2 Jan 1975 [4 Jan 1974] 144/75 Heading F2E A stop motion for stopping a drum 1 in a definite angular position comprises a stop cam 8 co-operating with means 12, 13 for engaging the cam and stopping it in the definite angular position, the cam being connected to an elastic coupling 9, 10 for connection with drum 1 and being connected (as shown, through the elastic coupling and a spindle 2) to a sliding coupling 6 for connection to a drive component 5 for the drum 1. As shown in Fig. 1, and in operation, an electric motor 3 drives spindle 2 through a gear wheel 5 which is loose on spindle 2 but which is squeezed between a cruciform spring washer 6 and a friction disc (not shown), both secured to spindle 2. Drum 1 is secured to spindle 2, and effects rotation of cam 8, loose on spindle 2, by a barrel 9 (secured to drum 1), a complementary part secured to cam 8, and two intervening elastic cylinders 10. Normally drum 1 is rotated counter-clockwise, Fig. 1, and arm 13 is held away from cam 8 by a control lever 16, but when the latter is moved to the dotted line position, spring 15 urges roller 12 into contact with cam 8. When notch 11 reaches roller 12, the lever pivots, stopping the cam and opening motor switch 17. By inertia, drum 1 continues rotating slightly, compressing cylinders 10, Fig. 5. (Fig. 5 faces in the opposite direction to Fig. 1.) The drum is thus urged clockwise, Fig. 1, but rotation beyond the stop position is prevented by continued inertial counter-clockwise rotation of gear wheel 5, acting through the new sliding coupling 6 &c. In Fig. 2, not shown, gear wheel 5 is replaced by a flywheel and spindle 2 is driven elsewhere by the motor. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a flywheel is secured to the shaft of gear wheel 4, Fig. 1.
