Abstract

1487782 Vaporizing charges in IC engines YAMAHA HATSUDOKI KK 12 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973 11 June 1974] 53697/74 Heading F1B An I.C. engine has means (e.g. a carburetter 28) adjusted to supply a leaner than stoichiometric air-fuel mixture to combustion chambers 13 via an induction passage 18 which is air-cooled or heated by heat conducted thereto from the combustion chambers and exhaust passages 20 that are surrounded by a water cooling jacket 26. To increase heat flow thereto the induction passage walls 17 may be thickened. By not water-cooling the induction passage 18, condensation of fuel on the walls 17 is reduced. Both the exhaust passages (20) and induction passages (18) may enter the combustion chambers from the same side of the engine (not shown),in which case the exhaust passages (20) are partially surrounded by a water jacket (46) and are in heat transfer relationship via a thin (e.g. A1) web (42) with the induction passages (18) while these induction passages are partially surrounded by an air-space (43). The cylinder head may be a cast Al monoblock, while the exhaust pipe may be lagged to act as an afterburner. Each engine cylinder 11 may have a separate carburetter 28.
