Abstract

1487549 Gramophone stylus arms A R RANGABE 22 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973] 7901/77 Divided out of 1487548 Heading G5R A diamond stylus tip 28 is mounted on a stylus arm 40 by mounting a diamond from which the tip is to be formed at the end of a rectangular metal rod 30; grinding the diamond and end of the rod into a conical configuration to form the tip 28 and then further grinding the rod to form a reduced diameter shank portion 30<SP>1</SP> adjacent the tip; inserting the tip in a recess 32 in a mould 34 with the rod held with its axis at a predetermined orientation to the mould upper surface and then filling the mould with a liquid cement; cutting through the shank portion 30<SP>1</SP> of the rod after the cement has set and then grinding the remaining part of the tip level with the upper surface of the cement; timing the ground surface and attaching the stylus arm 40 by a soft soldering process and finally removing the cement by a suitable technique. Alternatively the stylus arm can be attached to the ground surface by an epoxy adhesive. The tip can be ground to have an elliptical section.
