1486869 Compositions containing pyridoquinolines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 April 1976 [19 May 1975] 21290/75 Heading A5B [Also in Division C2] Theropeutic compositions comprise compounds of formulae wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or the same as R<SP>2</SP>; R<SP>2</SP> is CH 2 R, CHMeR or CHEtR, R being CN, C 2-4 alkanoyl, benzoyl, C 2-6 alkanolyloxy, (C 1-5 - alkoxy) carbonyl, Ph-(C 1-3 alkoxy) carbonyl or C 3-7 -(dialkylcarbamoyl); and benzene ring B may be substituted by C 1-6 alkyl, C 1-6 alkoxy or/and halogen. They may be administered orally or intravenously to treat intrinsic (non- allergic) asthma, or a disease or syndrome initiated by antigen-antibody reaction e.g. allergic asthma, hay fever, urticaria or an autoimmune disease. They may contain additionally beta-adrenergic stimulants (e.g. isoprenaline, adrenaline, orciprenaline or isoethacine), prostaglandins (e.g. E, or E 2 ) having bronchodilatory activity, or phosphodiesterase inhibitors (e.g. 3-acetamido-6-methyl-8-n-propyl-s-triazolo [4, 3-a] pyrazine, 2-amino-4, 6- di-C 1-4 -alkyl-5-oxo-4, 5-dihydro-s-triazolo [1, 5-a] pyrmidines, theophylline and related 3, 5-di-C 1-4 -alkylxanthines; and 6, 8-di-C 1-4 alkyl -5, 6-dihydro-5-oxo-s-triazolo [4, 3-c] pyrimidines).
