Abstract

1486763 Wood stains FOSROC AG 14 Aug 1974 [15 Aug 1973 11 June 1974] 04135/77 Divided out of 1485115 Heading C4A [Also in Division Dl] A composition for staining timber, e.g. by the double vacuum process, comprises a pigment having a particle size in the range 0À02-1 micron, e.g. colloidal and a preservative dissolved in an organic solvent. The timber is contacted under vacuum with the composition, the vacuum released and optionally pressure applied, the composition removed from contact with the timber and a second vacuum applied and released. The pigment may be a transparent colloidal ferric hydroxide dispersion in toluene. The preservative may be a fungicide, insecticide or fire retardant. The solvent may be a petroleum hydrocarbon, e.g. white spirit, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, or a liquefied propane or butane. The composition may further contain a long oil alkyd resin, a water repellant, and methyl ethyl ketoxime.
