Abstract

A dark-coloured substance is made by bringing a colourless or lightly-coloured compound which includes as its major functional arrangement the molecular structure:- <FORM:1018794/C4-C5/1> in which structure the moiety <FORM:1018794/C4-C5/2> represents the groups <FORM:1018794/C4-C5/3> into contact with a phenolic compound. Phenolic compounds specified are phenol, the three dihydric phenols, the three trihydric phenols and 1- and 2-naphthol. The colourless or lightly-coloured compounds specified are described in Specifications 1,017,695, 1,018,793, 1,018,795 and 1,018,796.
