Abstract

1486613 Agitator mills H BORN 7 Nov 1974 48279/74 Heading B2A An agitator mill includes two rotatable shafts 7 Fig. 1 each supporting an agitator member 8, and a filter 10 in the mill chamber 9. Sand glass or metal oxide media of 0.3 to 6 mm are used. Drive is from the via step down gears. The agitators 8 may be smooth ribbed corrugated or apertured discs, adjustable longitudinally on the shafts 7. The mill has a heating/cooling jacket 17. The outer wall 16 may be oval or elliptical. In another embodiment drive is from the top and the bottom end of each shaft is supported in bearing. Further embodiments have three agitators or four agitators 6 Figs. 5 and 6 not shown and the agitators may perform a planetary motion using a gear drive 64 Fig. 7. The inlet may be at the upper end of the milling receptacle and a conduit C may extend to the botom of the milling chamber and have outlets in the region of the bottom wall of the receptacle. The planetary gear drive may be replaced by a double-curve cam drive or by a hydrostatic drive including hydrostatic motors and speed regulator.
