Abstract

1486498 Chamfering glass sheets L BOVONE [trading as ELETTROMECCANICA LUIGI BOVONE] 8 Oct 1975 [16 Oct 1974] 41264/75 Heading B3D A machine for chamfering glass sheets comprises tracks 5, 6 defining a gap or interstice through which a sheet is passed for chamfering by units 3, such as grinding wheels, and, at least at the inlet side of the gap, a sheet bearing and transferring frame 7 hinged at one end 11 and connected at the other end to a laterally movable one 6 of the tracks so that movement of the track effects tilting of the frame whereby the sheet is guided to the gap between the frames. A base 1 of the machine carries a tiltable crosshead 2 having a series of units 3, such as grinding wheels, which act on the edges of the sheets of glass as they are conveyed between the pair of tracks 5, 6. Frames 7, 8 are provided at the inlet and outlet of the gap between the tracks, the frames being identical and each having idler rollers 9 for supporting the sheets, as they are fed by continuously moving belts 10. The outer ends of each frame 7, 8 are supported on pivots 11, and the inner ends have blocks 13 provided with slots 14 engaged by pins 15 on brackets 16 secured to the track 6. As the track is adjusted laterally to accommodate different thicknesses of glass sheets, the frames 7, 8 are adjusted about the pivots 11 so that the sheets of glass are correctly guided to and from the gaps between the tracks.
