Abstract
1486416 Measuring capacitance AVO Ltd 4 Oct 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 46729/73 Heading G1 An unknown capacitance Cx, shown in Fig. 2 as comprising a single capacitor shunted by two series-connected capacitors, is measured by opposing two currents through a detector D, the first current arising from a source S and being proportional to a known capacitance C s and the second also arising from the source S and being proportional to the capacitance Cx to be measured, this capacitance being transformer coupled to the source S and the resulting current being transformer coupled to the detector D. The arrangement is particular adapted for measuring inter-conductor capacitances of a multi-core cable, where each core also has a capacitance to earth. In the preferred embodiments each transformer has an appropriate screen between its windings, and each is appropriately tapped for testing either a single cable quad or a pair of such quads.
