Abstract

1486268 Corona charging apparatus BELL & HOWELL CO 7 Nov 1974 [8 Nov 1973] 22851/75 Divided out of 1486266 Heading H1X A corona unit, for electrostatically charging a photoconductive layer on a carrier, comprises two channel-section housings 150, 151 mounted parallel on spacers with their open sides facing each other, and a corona wire 169, 170 in each housing supported under tension between a terminal 175, 176 at one end of the housing to which both ends of the wire are adjustably clamped and connected to a high voltage source, and a support post 173, 174 at the other end of the housing round which the wire passes to form a loop. The spacers and the corona wire supports may be combined, as shown. Insulating monofilaments 177, 178 may span the open sides of the housings to prevent copy paper, when fed between the housings, from touching the corona wires.
