Abstract
1463712 Corona charging apparatus ELFOTEC AG 8 Feb 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 05859/74 Heading H1X A charging arrangement comprises a first electrode in the form of a sheet 5, a second electrode emitting corona and comprising a plurality of component electrodes 11 to 16, and fieldconnecting means 21 and 22 to provide a uniform current density over the charging area. The sheet 5, which may be of insulating material metallized on its lower surface is supported by conductive rolls 2 and 3 mounted on a chassis frame 1. Supporting walls 8 and 9 mounted on the frame 1 have holes 10 through which a wire is drawn to produce an arrangement of parallel wires 11 to 16 connected to the central conductor 17 of a cable 18 leading to one terminal of a high-voltage source, the other terminal of which is connected to the chassis frame 1. The field-correcting means 21 and 22 are plates, preferably of corona-resistant insulating material, e.g. P.T.F.E., attached by supports 23 and 24 to the walls 8 and 9. Insulating sleeves 25 intermediate the wire runs 11 to 16 provide further field-correcting means. As an addition to the plates 21 and 22, the peripheral field may be connected by making the two outermost wires 11 and 16 so thick that no corona discharge occurs at these wires.
