1486113 Subbing photographic materials FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 5 Feb 1975 [6 Feb 1974] 4972/75 Heading G2C A photographic material comprises (i) a hydrophobic support having adjacent thereto (ii) a subbing layer comprised of a hydrophobic resin and (iii) at least one hydrophilic photographic layer on the subbing layer, wherein the subbing layer contains droplets of a hydrophobic liquid which does not dissolve the subbing resin nor diffuse from the subbing layer and having a boiling point above 120‹C and which is immiscible with the resin and a non-solvent for the resin, the droplets having a diameter of 0À01 to 1 micron and less than the thickness of the subbing layer and being present in an amount of from <SP>1</SP>/ 5 to 3 times by volume to the volume of the hydrophilic resin. The liquid may be an ester or amide of an organic or inorganic acid, an ester or ether of a polyhydric alcohol, an alkylphenol, an alkylnaphthalene, a halogenated paraffin, a colour coupler a vegetable, animal or mineral oil. Suitable materials are an adipate, azelate, citrate, fumarate, glycerol derivative, or an isophthalic, phthalic, phosphoric or sebacic acid derivative. The droplets may be formed by emulsifying the liquid in the layer material. The layer containing the droplets can contain a subbing resin that has one or more groups selected from carboxy, methylol, hydroxy, oxirane, epoxy, glycidyl, ethylene-imino, iso cyanate, thioisocyanate, acetal, ketal, vinyl, acryloxy, methacryloxy, carbodiimide, phenolic, thiol, amino, acrylamino, carbamoyl, thiocarboxy, thiocarbamoyl, guanidyl, hydrazino, oxine, ureido and thioureido groups.
