Abstract

1486017 Knitted pile fabrics; knitting- machines B Y (SIMULATED FURS) Ltd 21 March 1975 [8 Oct 1974] 43638/74 Headings D1C and D1K Simulated fur fabric is made on a sliver weft knitting machine by securing slivers of first fibres 12 into the loops over the whole of the ground structure 10, additional slivers of second fibres 14 in spaced walewise extending panels P only and slivers of third fibres 15, additional to and contrasting in appearance with the fibres 12, 14, in walewise extending stripes S' within the panels. Either two or three carding heads are provided in advance of each feed of a circular machine to knit the fabric, in the former case both the second and third fibres being fed by the same head. Needles may be selected by having different butt and tail lengths to cooperate with cams of different thicknesses. Alternatively patterning units, comprising selector elements arranged in predetermined tricks of a rotary pattern drum to be slidable into engagement with the needle butts by a stationary cam within the drum, may be used to control the needles actually at the carding heads. Such units allow for variation in the fibre pick-up and by rearrangement of the selector elements in the tricks, may produce stripes S' which change in width and direction and merge into the panels P.
