Abstract

1485984 Rice harvester B H BRADSHAW & SON (CONTRACTORS) Ltd 27 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 14196/74 Heading A1F A rice harvesting machine comprises a crop pick-up reel 48, a motor driven cutter 16 and a slatted conveyor 22 for moving the crop to a knotter 24, which ties the crop into bundles. The cutter 16, driven by a pneumatic motor 18, is located immediately in front of a transverse conveyor 22 having a horizontal section 22b and an upwardly inclined portion, the latter cooperating with a floating conveyor 32 to feed the crop to the knotter 24. Two packing needles 26, mounted on a horizontal crank shaft, (Fig. 5 not shown), pack the crop into a bundle on a knotter table 30 where a swinging needle 42 brings a cord around the bundle which the knotter (conventional design) ties. The tied bundle is ejected by two rotating arms 38 mounted on knotter shaft 24a. The crop pick-up reel 48 is pivotally mounted to the machine by arms 46 which, in use, are swung downwards into a position slightly in front of the cutter 16 so that the crop is picked up and cutting is assisted. The machine can either be self propelled or coupled to the rear of a tractor.
