Abstract
1485762 Rechargeable zinc-chlorine cells UMGATE Ltd 19 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 40298/73 Heading H1B A rechargeable zinc-chlorine cell comprises at least one porous carbon cathode in which chlorine gas is occluded, at least one zinc electrode and an electrolyte of zinc chloride having a pH of not less than 1À0. The electrolyte is formed by reacting zinc oxide with hydrochloric acid to provide zinc chloride solution having a low percentage of impurities such as ammonium and iodide ions. Alternatively the electrolyte pH value of not less than 1À0 may be maintained by complexing or liberating the nitrogen in the electrolyte.
