Abstract
PURPOSE:To use small-sized and large capacity batteries and provide them with long life by employing a positive electrode active substance of a composite material consisting of metal sulfide and activated charcoal having a certain value of specific surface area, and by adopting an electrolyte of a non-proton type organic solvent solution of a specified compound. CONSTITUTION:An activated charcoal shall have a specific surface area over 600m<2>/g according to BET method, and forms a composite material having the ratio by weight to metal sulfide ranging from 95:5 to 20:80. Some examples of metal sulfide are titanium sulfide, molybdenum sulfide, iron sulfide, and copper sulfide. Compound capable of forming electrolyte is compound which can produce ions possible to be doped by electrolysis, e.g. LiI, and a non-proton type organic solvent to dissolve it shall be e.g. ethylene carbonate etc. Negative electrode is made, e.g., of alikali metal, alloy thereof, alkali earth metal, and alloy thereof. Thus a battery can be made in a small size, with great capacity, and long life.
