Abstract
1485490 Fuel injection pumping apparatus NISSAN DIESEL MOTOR CO Ltd and DIESEL KIKI KK 10 Dec 1974 [10 Dec 1973] 53483/74 Heading F1A The injection timing of a fuel injection pump is determined by the relative angular adjustment between the engine drive-shaft 2 and the driven shaft 8 of the pump, the adjustment being produced by a mechanism 1 which advances the timing with increasing speed and a mechanism 3 which retards the timing with increasing speed. The mechanism 1 advances the injection gradually after a predetermined speed is exceeded whereas the mechanism 3 either retards the injection gradually, or by a fixed amount at a predetermined speed lower than the speed at which the mechanism 1 becomes operative. The mechanism 3, shown in Fig. 3, is of the latter type and comprises helically splined shafts 6, 8 of opposite sense screwed into opposite ends of an axially movable member 9. At the predetermined speed a circuit 17 generates a signal which causes an electromagnetic valve 13 to changeover, whereby liquid from a pump 14 displaces a piston 15 against the bias of a spring 12 to move the member 9. The mechanism 3 may alternatively comprise a rotary vane motor, Fig. 4 (not shown). The mechanism of Fig. 3 may also be used as the mechanism 1 by arranging for the member 9 to be movable in response to engine speed.
