Abstract
1485432 Surgical drain DOW CORNING CORP 11 Sept 1974 [3 Oct 1973] 39594/74 Heading A5R [Also in Division B5] A surgical drain comprises two series of parallel rods or tubes 10 in two parallel planes so that the rods or tubes in one plane lie in staggered relation to the rods or tubes in the other, the rods or tubes in one plane being connected to their adjacent rods in the other plane by a web 12 so as to form a series of channels 14. The drain may be varied in width by tearing along web, or in thickness by stacking on top of each other or rolling into a circular form. Clogging is prevented by the apertures between the rods or tubes being narrower than the width of the channels. The drains are formed by extrusion from a physiologically inert elastomeric material such as a silicone rubber, butyl polymer or a natural polymer from the hevea tree.
