Abstract
1485314 Lasers TRW Inc 31 Dec 1974 56189/74 Heading H1C In a chemical laser including a combustion chamber 30, a laser cavity 31 and an effluent section. 40, reactant and diluent gases are supplied to the chamber from a removable feed cartridge 42, while a removable pump cartridge 43 absorbs heat and neutralizes effluent gases from the cavity at sufficient speed to sustain a CW reaction; the cartridges being adapted to provide a gas tight seal with the laser when operatively connected thereto and the laser being adapted to maintain an operating pressure within the cavity for further laser reaction upon termination of the reaction and removal of the cartridges. Suitable reactant gases are H 2 , D 2 , CS 2 , C 2 H 2 , C 2 N 2 , C 6 H 6 , F 2 , CL 2 , Br 2 , I 2 , NF 3 , ClF 3 or solid fluorinated hydrocarbons. Air or N 2 may be used as a diluent gas. The pump cartridge may contain pre-heated Ca coated on common salt, Fig. 3 (not shown).
