Abstract

Process comprises (A) feeding the cell material into a pressure chamber, (B) feeding a pressure gas into the pressure chamber, and (C) instontaneously venting and emptying the pressure chamber, the process being carried out with refrigeration. The pressure gas is pref. CO2. Refrrigeration can be effected by cooling the cell material before introducing into the pressure chamber or by contacting with an inert cooling medium pref. CO2 or NO2. Partic. pref. is the use of liq. CO2 or N2 or of solid CO2 pellets as the cooling medium.
