Abstract
Process for removing nitrogen oxides from a gas mixture including carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, characterized in that it comprises: (a) treating said gas mixture in an area with an aqueous medium and an oxidant, said aqueous medium including a carbonate - alkali metal bicarbonate; (b) maintaining said alkali metal carbonate-bicarbonate in stoichiometric excess; and (c) forming an aqueous product medium including at least one alkali metal salt of the group consisting of alkali metal nitrite and alkali metal nitrate.
