Abstract

1485057 Polymers of vinylthio compounds EASTMAN KODAK CO 20 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 55137/74 Heading C3P [Also in Divisions C2 and G2] Poly[vinylthio(methylthio)methane - cosodium 3 - acryloyloxypropane - 1 - sulphonate] is prepared by polymerizing vinylthio(methylthio) methane and sodium 3-acryloyloxypropane-1- sulphonate in a solution of ethanol and water in the presence of 2,2<SP>1</SP>-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile). Poly[vinylthio(methylthio)methane - co - 2- (methacryloyloxy)ethyltrimethyl-ammonium methosulphate] is prepared by polymerizing vinyl thio(methylthio)methane with 2 - (methaoryloyloxy)ethyl trimethylammonium methosulphate in the same conditions as above. Similar co-polymers are prepared by the same method using 1-vinylthio-2-methylthioethane; 1 - vinylthio - 3 - methylthiopropane; and 1-vinylthio-4-methylthiobutane. The following terpolymers are also prepared by the above method: poly[vinylthio(methylthio)methane - co - acrylic acid - co - methacrylic acid]; poly[vinylthio(methylthio)methanecomethacrylic acid - co - 2 - (N,N - dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate]; and poly[vinylthio(methylthio)methane - co - methyl methacrylate - co - acrylic acid].
